CAFTAN, A LOVE STORY

Never mind my gorgeous throw, check out my caftan.

Forget the gorgeous pink throw, check out my caftan! I have a rotating collection hanging in my bedroom for inspiration, something about dreaming of being on a holiday every day.

 My collection includes vintage, new and reworked pieces, and of course, the linen beauty I am wearing in this image; in a dreamy print by Rachel Comey. She is an American designer carried by ad hoc in Penticton, an exceptional fashion retailer. I first realized caftans were an acceptable clothing option as a child. I would watch my favourite aunt, puttering about the house and yard wearing quilted pastel bed jackets and zip-up caftans. I absolutely adored her, she was full of love and acceptance, and she had no idea her fashion sense was so influential.

According to Vogue, a caftan is a “narrow cut, long robe with full sleeves, either with a deep open neck or fully open to the floor.” Call it what you will, caftan, kaftan, muumuu, their billowy silhouette is making them a prominent statement piece for spring 2022.
